Std # 1.31: Recognize subject-verb agreement
  • Singular and plural subjects, including compound subjects. (Note: Compound subjects will include those joined by “or,” with the second element singular or plural)

  • Compound in form, singular in meaning

  • Plural in form, singular in meaning

  • Regular and inverted order

  • Collective nouns, when correct verb form depends on rest of sentence

  • Sentences with intervening phrases

  • Indefinite pronoun as subject

  • Correlative conjunctions


Lesson Plans:

(B) Students highlight verbs found in a short reading passage and copy them in a list. 
(I, T)
Students identify verbs by underlining all the verbs found in a short reading passage. They can then copy the verbs onto a list and define their meanings. Students complete Verb Form Quiz.
(I, T) Students work in small groups to create sentences that have correct subject-verb agreement.

Obtaining Employment
(I, T) Student will use subject/verb agreement when interviewing. Students will use grammatically correct English when answering verbally.
