Lesson Plans: Los Volcanes Mexicanos In this activity we will be visiting web sites about volcanoes in Mexico Theobroma Caco/The Food of the Gods This is a fascinating site which will give you the history of and the Spanish connection with chocolate. Puerto Rico This is a cultural lesson about Puerto Rico and famous Puerto Ricans Fiestas En Perú This lesson allows students to gain knowledge of Peruvian culture, and also practice dates, identify cognates, identify new words, make comparisons, and organize a celebration. Planning a Vacation to Spain In this lesson students will learn to create a travel brochure for a destination in Spain. Working in groups, students will be able to create a travel brochure for their hometown. Different Ethnic Groups in Ecuador, Panama and Argentina: Their Assimilation and their Contributions This lesson plan familiarizes students with the various ethnic groups in Latin America and the ways in which they have contributed to a specific Latin American country. There is also specific Spanish vocabulary. The Aztecs― Mighty Warriors of Mexico In this lesson, students will learn about the history and culture of the Aztecs and discover why their civilization came to an abrupt end. The Aztec Conquest & the Birth of a New Race (Mestizo) This is a lesson plan designed to teach students about Aztec life and the conquest of the Aztecs by the Spanish. Precolumbian Myths and Legends By exploring this site on Pre-Columbian myths and legends students will gain insight into these people's history, values, perceptions, attitudes, ethics, tolerance and religious beliefs. What Brought You Here? This lesson involves a study of the reasons (not covered by the media) Mexican and other Latin Americans immigrate to the United States. A Pre-Columbian Mosaic of Latin America: Linguistic Diversity within the Maya Cultural Region Students will look at the diversity of languages and ethnic groups as an identifier of geographic location and isolation, history, and an important ethnic cultural expression. Students will also recognize the fact that over 28 different dialects are spoken by 3 million people who identify themselves a Maya. These dialects define their ethnic groups, as do their clothing, history, and other cultural characteristics. The Mayans This is an interdisciplinary unit which will explore why the Mayan are not as prominent today as they were in the past. Students will also develop a better understanding of Mayan culture and their civilization. Mexican Food This website provides everything you need for your lesson on Mexican Food; except an overview in the form of a lecture that you may want to present before going into your lesson. Traditions of Spain In this lesson, Traditions of Spain, students will gain knowledge of Spanish customs. The students will be able to compare this with that of the United States The Roots of American Culture In this lesson, students first explore the notion of culture and the influence of Latino culture on the U.S. Students then work in small groups to identify ways that Latino and non-Latino U.S. cultures have engaged in cultural 'cross-fertilization. I Hear Latin American Singing In this lesson, students learn about the historical and current social, political, and cultural trends of Latin American countries. After researching a specific country, groups write songs that reflect the music styles as well as the history of the region. Using Powerpoint to learn vocabulary The purpose of this lesson is for the students to learn the Spanish terminology for family members; to learn how to use Microsoft Power Point; to learn how to use a scanner. Aztecs Meet the Spanish This assignment will challenge all levels of Spanish It involves the use of a variety of maps and documents. Students will also need to use their analytical skills. Costa Rica Lessons The object of this lesson is to do a timeline on Costa Rica's history. Students must first have a basic knowledge of the country including its location, type of government and some aspects of its history. Hispanic World Unit In this unit, students will conduct primary and secondary research to know the "hispanohablantes" in the world. These explorations will serve as windows for these Spanish-speaking countries for students to acquire information and impression from different perspectives . Students are supposed to conduct the researches by using their Spanish ability to comprehend the information on Internet.
