Std # 3–1: Recognize fallacies of logic and judge strength of argument

Lesson Plans:

Hamlet and the Revenge Ethic in Text and Film
This lesson seeks to sensitize students to the complex nature of revenge as it is portrayed in Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. Students learn how Shakespeare's play interprets Elizabethan attitudes toward revenge, as reflected in the structure of the Elizabethan revenge tragedy, one of the most popular forms of drama of that era.

Introduction to Argument
This activity introduces students to argumentation. By the end of the lesson, students have a better understanding of the terms controversial , pro , and con , and they are better able to see both sides of a controversial topic.

Reading Between the Lines
Students use Internet resources to keep informed about world events, hopefully creating an ongoing reading interest.

Persuasive Writing
Students learn how to use persuasive writing in commercials and in formal essays.  This flexible lesson includes many suggested activities.
