ESL Ideas
(B=Beginning,
I=Intermediate,
T=Transitional)
(B, I, T) Students generate a list of nouns and adjectives from
viewing a picture or photograph. Students then use these words to
produce haiku. The teacher will need to provide haiku examples. See
Haiku
Master Poet Matsuo Basho for examples. Students may translate the haiku into their own language.
(I, T) Students compose a simple nature fable with a moral.
Sample fables should be provided such as
Aesop’s Fables or La Fontaine.
Students should be encouraged to accompany their fable with posters and
drawings. Students may want to borrow ideas from classic tales from
their culture. Students should be encouraged to share stories with the
class.
(T) Students read a familiar fairy tale, then
rewrite it for younger students.
