Std 8:
Solve systems of linear equations and inequalities in two variables graphically or algebraically.
  • Modeling real-world problems by developing and solving systems of linear equations and inequalities

Lesson Plans

Supply and Demand Systems
This activity focuses on having students create and solve a system of linear equations in a real-world setting. By solving the system, students will find the equilibrium point for supply and demand.

Linear Functions - Learn Your Lines
Students will collect and analyze data using motion detectors of the TI Calculator-Based Laboratory (CBL) to solve and describe if and where data, representing two straight lines, intersect using numbers, symbols, and graphs.

What’s the [intersection] Point?
This unit introduces students to technology as a means of graphing linear equations on a graphing calculator and finding the point of intersection and inputting data into lists.

Solving Systems of Equations- Graph, Substitute, or Eliminate
This is a PurpleMath lesson where you choose the method you want at the top of the page.  Includes some good graphs and Matrix work if you are interested.

Solving Systems of Inequalities
This is a PurpleMath lesson that contains some good graphs with color for teaching solving systems of inequalities.  There is an option to link to graphing inequalities (prerequisite) on the page.
