Lesson Plans

Windspeed vs. Temperature
In this activity, students will create their own anemometer, an instrument used to measure wind speed. Using this tool and the Beaufort Scale, students will measure and record estimated and average wind speeds. As an extension, students can plot and then analyze real-world wind speed data collected by Pathfinder during one of its recent missions

How Sharp is your Memory?
Students will be asked to recall as many items as they can from each set in a certain length of time. Students will collect, organize, and interpret this data through several statistical methods.

Chicago Public Schools
This is a structured lesson plan that provides strategies for teaching, examples, worksheets, and assessments. Instruction on the TI-82/83 is provided. (Day 76)

Batting Averages and More
In this lesson, students compare the batting averages of some of the best baseball players and make inferences about which player is the best.

Resources:

The Lie Factor
How graphs can be distorted to misconstrue the facts.

Online stem and leaf plotter
Students can enter their own data and the program will construct a stem-and-leaf-plot.

Virtual manipulative
Demonstrates box and whisker plots. You can use their data or insert your own.

Virtual manipulative
Demonstrates scatterplots. Interactively add points to the graph and watch the regression line change. It gives average x, y and the correlation coefficient.
