Algebraic Connections
Std 4: Determine maximum and minimum values of a function using linear programming procedures.

Example: Given the boundaries x > 0, y > 0, 2x - 3y + 15 > 0, and x < 9, find the maximum and minimum values of f(x,y) = 3x + 5y.

Lesson Plans

Between the Extremes
Students will use the graphing calculator to analyze, write, and graph systems of inequalities from given data. Using real-life situations, students will collect and interpret data using graphing calculators.

Chicago Public Schools
Thorough treatment of linear programming with three days of instruction. See days 25-27.

The Busing Problem (Linear Programming)
Real life linear programming problems in a lesson plan from PBS. It has an online video that can go with the lesson, but the print material stands alone.

An Introduction to Linear Programming
A step-by-step lesson for determining the maximum of a function by linear programming.

Linear Programming and Profit Lines
A lesson / activity on using profit lines and linear programming to find maximum profit.  Click on the links for the activity pages.
