National Geographic Population Study
This lesson is primarily geared towards the study of population change
in a social studies context, but students use data to make predictions.
Food for Thought
Food for Thought is a spatial graphing activity that uses the
participants as part of the graph. The activity helps students develop
a feeling for the similarities and differences between populations.
Many measures are used for comparison including population, population
density, population growth rates, life expectancy, energy consumption,
CO2 emissions, and more.
Pyramid Building
This lesson provides students with the background to understand the
importance of age structure on population growth. They do this by
creating a population pyramid. This process will also help them
understand the meaning of different shaped "pyramids" and the impacts
of these different growth patterns.
