Geometry
Std 11: Determine the areas and perimeters of regular polygons, including inscribed or circumscribed polygons, given the coordinates of vertices or other characteristics.

Lesson Plans

Interactive Area: Area of Triangles; Area of Rectangles; Area of Parallelograms
Investigate the area of rectangles, triangles, and parallelograms using interactive math tools.

House Building
This lesson incorporates area and perimeter with building a miniature house.

Going In, Out, and Around with Polygons
Students will construct, inscribe, and circumscribe polygons ranging from three to eight sides.  Using area and perimeter measurements, they will reach conclusions that will lead to the meaning of a limit.

What’s the Point? - A TI-92 Investigation
This lesson investigates the properties of perpendicular bisectors of chord and their relationships to the center of the circle.  Follow up and extension exercises relate this concept to that of inscribed polygons.

What's the angle, What's the shape?
Students construct a variety of polygons with given sides and angles and determine their characteristics.

The Gum Drop. Watch Your Step!
Students find the area of irregular polygons and investigate Pick's Algorithm.

Areas and Perimeters of Regular Polygons
This is a complete lesson on the area and perimeter of regular polygons.  It includes a good diagram and practice problems.

Geometry: Area Project
Students will familiarize themselves with area formulas by completing a hands-on area project.

Sketchpad Investigations of the Orthocenter
Step by step instruction of circumscribing/inscribing a circle about/in a triangle.

Orthocenter and Circumcenter
This interactive applet demonstrates the Orthocenter and Circumcenter of a triangle.

Cancer and Mathematics
The perimeter is compared to the area of cancer cells to show the relationship between math, science and medicine.
