Grade 1, Math
Std 2: Demonstrate conceptual understanding of addition and subtraction by telling number stories, joining, separating, and comparing sets of objects; and applying signs (+ and -) to the actions of joining and separating sets.
  • Solving simple word problems using a variety of strategies and distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information
       Example:  strategies--counting all, counting on, counting back
  • Solving problems requiring the addition and subtraction of one- or two-digit numerals without regrouping
  • Using three or more addends

This math game invites students to use money to practice their addition and subtraction skills while building upon their knowledge of coin values.

How Many Donuts?
In this lesson students will create a story board and solve one step oral word problems using cereal as manipulative.

How Many?
In this lesson, students will solve one step oral word problems by drawing a picture of the problem and writing the answer.

Adding Three Numbers
In this lesson the students will play a matching game, matching an equation with a sum.
