 Demonstrate computational fluency of basic addition and subtraction facts by identifying sums to 10 and differences with minuends of 10 or less.

Lesson Plans:

Do You Recall?
Students recall addition math facts to 10 by playing a flash card game and a fun game with a beach ball.

Add 'Em Up!
After assisting the teacher in whole group, students will use unifix cubes to create their own number sentences that equal ten.  An assessment sheet is included.

How Many More Fish?
A 7 lesson unit focusing on comparative subtraction.  Students use fish-shaped crackers to explore all five meanings for the operations of subtraction (counting, sets, number line, balance, and addition)

Number Tick Tack Toe
In this lesson students will get extended practice in basic addition and subtraction facts while playing tic-tac-toe.

"An Apple a Day":  Concept of Half and Simple Addition
This is a hands-on lesson which uses apples to introduce the concept of "half" and to teach simple addition.

 

 

Resources:

Subtraction
An interactive bowling game designed so that the player has to subtract two numbers to bowl a ball down a bowling alley lane. They continue until they have reached zero pins remaining.

First Grade Math Games
In the following activities, the student does simple math problems and then letter substitutions to answer a dinosaur-related question.

T-Races
A fast paced math game for addition or subtraction that can be used for any grade working on basic math facts.
