Lesson Plans:

Hey! That's Not Half!
Students will determine which items are divided equally and identify 1/2 and 1/4.

Give Me Half
Students will create manipulatives to explore fractions. This lesson uses the book Give Me Half! by Stuart J. Murphy.

Fun With Fractions
This hands-on lesson reviews different ways of representing fractions using concrete, pictorial models, and words.  Literature and play dough are used to reinforce this lesson.

Fractions with Oranges
This lesson provides an introductory activity for fractions. Oranges are used to show the difference between one whole, one half, and one quarter.

Teaching Fractions - Thirds
Students will work with fractions, create and manipulate objects divided into equal parts, and name thirds, quarters, and halves.

Fractions
Students will define one-fourth, compare equal parts of a whole, and identify fraction models.

Fraction Action
A hands-on, technology-connected activity introducing halves, thirds, and fourths.

Gotta Have Fractions
A five day unit focusing on exploring fractions in new and exciting ways.  The lessons involve anything from a gigantic Mr. Goodbar to a Fraction Burrito to Gummy Worms.

Fraction Fun
Students will use a pizza to demonstrate their knowledge of fractional parts.

"An Apple a Day":  Concept of Half and Simple Addition
This is a hands-on lesson which uses apples to introduce the concept of "half" and to teach simple addition.
