Grade 1, Math
Std 7:  Demonstrate relationships betweens operations.

Example:  addition and subtraction fact families--

5 + 2 = 7           7 - 2 = 5
2 + 5 = 7           7 - 5 = 2

Lesson Plans:

Do It With Dominos
Nine lessons in which students explore the four models of addition (counting, sets, number line, and balanced equations), learn about the order property, the relation between addition and subtraction, and the result of adding 0.

Fact Families
Students will identify the subtraction facts with the addition facts that make a math family. (This lesson is identified as a 2nd grade lesson but can be adjusted for 1st grade.)

Math Fact Family Tree - Leaves for Our Tree
Students will review fact families and create a Math Fact Family Tree.  This lesson is designed for 2nd grade but can be adjusted for 1st.

What Else Do You Know?
Students will explore the concept of "fact families."

Investigating Number Properties
Students explore the commutative property of addition, and identify subtraction and addition as inverse operations.

Resources:

Graphic Organizers
These graphic organizers make learning the addition math fact families fun. Use the Commutative Property of Addition (using both orders 4+1 = 1+4 and both =4) to fill in the fact family blanks.

Fact Family Cards
This site gives patterns for making fact family cards for students to practice their math skills.
