Std 10:  Compare objects according to length, weight, and capacity.
  • Measuring the length of objects using a variety of nonstandard units

    Examples: 
    using objects of unequal length -- finding number of pencils needed to     
                           measure length of desk,
    using objects of equal length -- comparing number of equally-sized paper
                           clips needed to measure length of desk
  • Ordering according to attributes

Students will use different lengths of yarn to measure using standard and nonstandard measurement.

Measure Mania
Students will use a variety of nonstandard units to measure length.

Non-Standard Measuring
Students will gain experience in measurement by using a non-standard measuring tool.

Using Nonstandard Measurement with How Big is a Foot?
This lesson incorporates nonstandard measurement into the classroom through the use of measurement stations for children to explore. Students will be measuring objects with their hands, feet, and pinky fingers.

Wonderful Whales
Students will gain knowledge of whales while identifying and comprehending the correct usage of the inch measurement.  Students will also identify and comprehend the concepts of small and large and make comparisons between the two.
