| Lesson Plans:
M&M Graphing and Probability
Students will have a hands-on and
cooperative learning experience in the process of collecting, analyzing,
and interpreting data, and to improve decision making skills through the
use of probability.
Color Spin
This performance event requires that students use a
spinner to make a simple prediction regarding probability, record the
results using a tally chart, make a comparison, create a graph that
shows the results, and write a verbal explanation.
Probability - Roll the Dice!
This activity can be used as an introduction to probability.
Students work in pairs to record outcomes when dice are rolled.
Students also research the history and modern uses of probability.
NOTE: This lesson is designed for grades 10, 11, and 12 but can
easily be adapted to elementary grades.
Probability: The Study of Chance
The purpose of this activity is
to begin the process of helping students to learn the basic principles
of probability.
Probably Pistachio
Students will practice making logical
predictions from information they are given.
Do
You Wanna Bet?
Students will become familiar with determining
probabilities.
Socrates and the Three Little Pigs
Students will gain an
understanding of probability which will allow them to make reasonable
estimates.
"A
Closet Full of Shoes" and "Picture Puzzle Piece" by Shel
Silverstein
Students will understand the concept of simple probability.
Hershey's Kisses -
Probability with a Random Drawing
Students will define probability; predict, record, and discuss outcomes
from a random drawing; and identify most likely and least likely
outcomes. Each student will conduct a random drawing; record the data
on a data chart; analyze the data; and graph the data.
Probability
The students will conduct an experiment; collect data; predict, record,
and discuss outcomes; and
analyze data for probability.
Probability with
Number Cubes
The purpose of this lesson is for
students to begin learning the basic principles of probability using
number cubes and tally charts.
Sticks
and Stones
Students will collect and display data regarding the moves in a game of
Sticks and Stone (a Native American game) and use probability to
estimate the average number of turns to win a game.
