  • Estimating sums and differences of whole numbers by using appropriate strategies such as rounding, front-end estimation, and compatible numbers

Lesson Plans:

Restaurant Decimals Math
Students will be able to utilize adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals in a real life scenario.

Exploring Addition Patterns
Students will use addition patterns to find sums.

Concentrate
Students will review addition properties.

Plane Capacity
Students will solve problems related to the capacity of an airplane.

Teaching Money
Students will be able to identify coin values and write amounts of money.

Everyday Mathematics
Students will determine how to solve word problems involving time and money.

Adding Decimals
In this lesson, students learn how to add numbers that contain decimal points (specifically dollar amounts). 

Pigs Will Be Pigs
Students will be able to correctly plan and calculate the total amount of money needed for specific items ordered from a given menu of foods.

Wishing and Hoping
Students will decide what jobs to do at home in order to earn enough money to buy special items that they want.

Pig Out Piggies!
This lesson is a performance event that addresses the concepts of money; budgets; adding, subtracting, multiplying money; and decision making.

Day at Six Flags
Performance task in which students make choices about spending money--application of math to life skills, graphic organizer.
