Grade 4, Math
Std 7: Solve problems, including word problems, involving the basic operations of multiplication and division on whole numbers through two-digit multipliers and one-digit divisors.
  • Estimating products and quotients of whole numbers by using appropriate strategies such as rounding, front-end estimation, and compatible numbers
  • Identifying information needed to determine the appropriate operation to solve a problem
  • Demonstrating computational fluency in multiplication and division fact families through 12

Lesson Plans:

Plane Capacity
Students will solve problems related to the capacity of an airplane.

Runways & Take Off
Students will be able to interpret word problems to figure out how to solve a problem.

Multiple Lists, Long Division, Bugs and Rats
Strategies to help students perform long division problems.

Multiplication with Two-Digits
Students will use manipulatives to multiply with two-digits.  Includes several PowerPoints.

Multiplying With Nine As A Factor
Students will participate in activities to help them learn to multiply with nine as a factor. Students will learn several strategies to memorize the multiples of nine through a multimedia presentation and practicing in groups. Finally, students will participate in activities on the computer and the Internet for practice as well as assessment.

Fact Families
Students are introduced to fact families and arrays. Students will complete a fact families worksheet and compose story problems using fact families.

Navigating the World Around Me
In groups, students will create their own realistic math story problems and demonstrate how to find the answer. Each group will present their findings by creating multimedia presentation.
