Grade 4, Math
Std 10:
Complete addition and subtraction number sentences with a missing addend or subtrahend.

Lesson Plans:

Missing Addends PowerPoint
Students learn about missing addends.
They will then go to the computer lab and create their own multimedia presentation with missing addend facts. Students will work in groups to solve each other's missing addend facts.

Food Pyramid Power - Try for Five
Students explore the many ways to decompose numbers, and they build on their knowledge of addition and subtraction to find missing addends.  (Use lesson 5 from the unit.)

Addend, Addend - Who's My Addend?
This kinesthetic lesson provides students with the opportunity to fill in the missing addend in an addition sentence with sums to 20. This lesson could very easily be adapted to small group instruction. The teacher could reduce or increase the degree of difficulty by only using sums to smaller or larger numbers.

We're Going on a Trip!
A subtraction lesson allowing students to use word problems to discover the answer to missing addend and subtraction problems.

Resources:
