Std 1:
Demonstrate number sense by comparing, ordering, rounding, and expanding whole numbers through millions and decimals to thousandths.

Lesson Plans:

Place Value Population - Rounding Off
Students will read and write whole numbers to hundred millions, know place value to hundred millions and will round off each group of numbers to a variety of units including: units , thousands, and millions.

Estimating Strategies
Students will develop estimation strategies by making connections among number, geometry, measurement, and data concepts.

Millions Upon Millions! 
Students will identify different names for numbers through 999,999 (e.g., standard form, word name, expanded notation, or rational form).

Decimal Numbers
Students will demonstrate an understanding of decimal numbers.

Straight From the Heart
Students enjoy a holiday treat while working in the areas of graphing, ratios, percentages and a situation in which they are called upon to solve a problem.

So That's What It Means!  (Finding Parts of a Million)
Students will learn an easy way to remember the value of 1/4 million, 1/2 million, and 3/4 million by relating it to quarters and a dollar and will be able to write numbers in numerical and word form.

Blast Off With Rounding
Assesses the student's ability to round numbers up to and including one billion by having them make a list of items they would take with them on a trip to space.

Decimals
Teaching Decimals in the Hundredths Place.

Percents
This lesson provides a variety of activities for the students to experience using percents. The usage of percents is presented in the context of situations that occur in a student's daily life. A kinesthetic activity is also included to reach all learning types.

Shopping for a Place Value!
During this lesson, students will have the opportunity to explore the world of rounding. Students will use the real estate market to help them learn how to round to the nearest hundred thousand. Students will get to create their own real estate advertisement and navigate the Internet to learn about rounding.

Virtual manipulatives related to NCTM standards in the areas of Number & Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement,  and Data Analysis & Probability.  To access tools, click inside the grid on the cell that matches the grade level and standards area desired.
