A presentation of the classic "a penny doubled every day for a month" scenario. Students calculate and graph exponential growth.

Multiplying Decimals and Mixed Numbers
This lesson is designed to reinforce skills associated with multiplying decimals and mixed numbers and allow students to visualize the effects of multiplying by a decimal or mixed number.

Penny Divide Game: 
Hands-on discovery activity that progresses in three stages.  This lesson incorporates the use of a teacher made division board game.  Directions are given.

Comparing Fractions:
The following discussions and activities are designed to give students practice in comparing fraction.  The activities provide ample practice opportunities to reinforce the information from the discussions.

Multiplying Decimals and Mixed Numbers:
This teacher directed lesson is designed to reinforce skills associated with multiplying decimals and mixed numbers and allow students to visualize the effects of multiplying by a decimal or mixed number.

A teacher directed practice lesson in scientific notation, measurement, and scale distances.

Animal Einstein's - Number Crunchers:
M & M board game that compares a base 10 number system with a base 2 number system.

Fraction Facts: 
A teacher directed lesson that introduces students to fractions and explores basic mathematical operations with fractions, comparing fractions, and converting fractions into decimals or percents.  There are several computer based games embedded in these lessons.

Beat the Calculator:
Teacher directed math challenge demonstrating concepts that allow students to rapidly compute fractions mentally.  Great classroom game to prepare students for CRT and SAT.

Skill in Arithmetic:
A complete teacher directed course in arithmetic basics, with an emphasis on doing math "naturally in our heads." Select lesson 25, "Multiply Fractions, Divide Fractions" and lesson 26, "Multiply Fractions, Parts of Fractions".

Solving Equations by Using Addition and Subtraction:
Worksheet where students add or subtract the same number on each side of an equation and the result is an equivalent equation. This is a PDF file and will require Acrobat Reader.

Exciting fast paced shockwave game that is great for students working in pairs.

Dividing Fractions Has a Weird Rule:
Self directed lesson gives a very good explanation of why we divide fractions by multiplying fractions by the reciprocal.

Expanded Notation:
This PDF file provides a brief self directed description of place value related to expanded notation followed by 12 self-check problems.

BBCi Schools Revisewise Math: Fractions
A self paced Flash interactive internet lesson explaining the basics of fractions.

Figure This: So How Much Does It Cost?
Self paced challenging problem involving the use of percent.  The webpage provides hints to help students along the way and student can check their answer by clicking on Answer.

Least Common Multiples: 
A self paced step by step lesson to introduce students to the concept of LCMs.

Clara Faction Ice Cream Shop
Fun interactive game where students must convert fractions in to mixed numbers to select the appropriate flavors and scoops sizes.  Once the ice cream cone has been built, students press send to go to the next problem.  High scores are recorded on the website.  This game takes some time to figure out but it is well worth the time.  First, convert the fractions to mixed numbers.  Second, select the scoop size.  Then select the Flavor and, finally, click on the cone. 

 

Dividing Decimals: 
Self paced activity that provides step by step directions for the process of dividing decimals.

Flash game designed to help students that are below level with addition skills and reasoning.  Higher levels include integers!
