Grade 6, Math
Std #6:
Classify angles as acute, obtuse, right, or straight.
  • Estimating angle measures using 45 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees 270 degrees, or 365 degrees as referents
  • Measuring angles

Lesson Plans:

Triangles:
As a group activity, the students will use Power Point Presentation slides to identify the different types of triangles.

Angles
The students will determine the number of degrees for each angle of each pattern block by using the right angle of the square as a reference.

Making Angle Finders from Index Cards
Students will use an index card to identify: straight, right, acute and obtuse angles

Angles by Chonna Parker
Students will be able to define and draw angles

The Three Types of Angles
Students will identify the three types of angles.

Math Maniac:  Shapes & Angles
Lesson plan designed to allow students to explore angles through art.  The adaptations at the bottom of the lesson plan has some good ideas.

Mighty Measurement
Students will use their estimation skills to estimate, classify, identify and draw angles.

Measure Angles:
Introduction to measuring angles. Begins with very basic, non-mathematical language.

Angles:
Lesson designed to introduce students to acute, obtuse, and right angles, as well as vertical, adjacent, alternate interior, and alternate exterior angles.

Shape & Space:
Instructional strategy suggestions and resources for teaching angle relationships.

Angles of Reflection:
This is a science lesson but would be great to tie in to a study of angle measurement.

Angle Measurement and the AD-1 Aircraft:
Students draw, visualize and compare geometric figures and models to discover relationships that enhance their spatial sense.

Angle Fandango
in this teacher directed lesson, students will learn to measure and classify angles.

Resources:

Kid Port:
In this interactive lesson, students are given multiple choice questions and are asked to measure an angle.

Investigating angels and the use of protractors
Interactive Flash lesson with activities following.

Types of Angles:
Online instruction and interactive examples of many angle and triangle concepts.

Kung Fu Angles
Students learn to measure angles while playing an interactive game.

Angles and Angle Terms:
Diagrams and definitions.

Quickie Math:
A brief explanation of pairs of angles.

Math Building Blocks:
Definition and description of angles.
