Grade 6, Math
Std #11:
Find the probability of a simple event.
  • Expressing probabilities as ratios, percents, and decimals

Lesson Plans:

Commonwealth of Knowledge
Probability: Ratio, Decimal, Percent, Graphs, Inference

Mean, Median, Mode and Range:
Students will develop their own definitions for the vocabulary terms: mean, median, mode, and range used in probability.

Mean, Median, Mode, and Range:
This activity allows students to visualize the difference between mean, median, mode, and range.

Descriptive Statistics:
Students explore mode, median, mean, and range by playing and recording data about a dice game.

Ask Dr. Math:
A discussion of probability.

Probability:
A Power Point Presentation about probability

Math Goodies:
An Introductory Lesson to Probability.

Let's Make a Deal Math:
A web quest that explores the probability of winning various types of games.

Survey of Favorites:
Students will conduct a survey and devise a rating scale for books, movies, or TV programs.

How Do You Measure Up?:
Measurements are made of each student.  The results are entered into a spreadsheet and used to discuss mean, median, mode, and average.

A Math Lesson on Statistics
The students will explore the term mean by averaging the letters of their name, their height, their age, and their heart beats per minute.

Probability Spread Sheets
Students pair up and toss coins to learn probability of coin tosses and then make a spreadsheet and graph to record the data.

Coin Toss #2
Students will be introduced to the concept of probability and statistics.

Basketball Probability
Students will be able to collect accurate data, and from the data, be able to find measures of central tendency.

Basketball Probability #2
Students will be able to find percentages given a set of data and predict outcomes,

Teach-nology - Curriculum Design for Mathematic Lesson - Probability:
Students will be able to recognize the relationship between probability and life.

Resources:

Real-time Histogram - Gizmo
This module lets you gather data while clicking your mouse every two seconds and creates a histogram while you are clicking. You can then change the bin size, maximum y-value, and even edit the data.

Mean, Median, Mode, and Range:
A card game to teach the concepts.

Train Race:
An on-line game comparing mean, median, mode, and range.

What Are Your Chances:
A discussion of how probability relates to various games.

Percent & Probability:
A list of probability resources available on-line .

Introduction to Probability:
Ask Dr. Math gives an in depth explanation of probability and its usefulness.

Math Goodies Probability:
An interactive lesson using a virtual math manipulative (a spinner).

Wise Up:
An on-line activity graphing temperatures and finding the average.

Mean, Median, Mode Gizmo:
A virtual math manipulative that illustrates mean, median, and mode.

More Descriptive Statistics:
A series of activities that explore stem-plots, and measures of central tendency.
