Grade 7, Math
Std #10:
Find the perimeter of polygons and the area of triangles and trapezoids.
  • Developing formulas for determining perimeter and area of triangles and trapezoids

Lesson Plans:

Zoo Mathematics
Students will investigate perimeter and area through a challenging zoo project.

Building Dog Houses
Students will investigate a variety of geometric shapes.

Olympic Area Lesson
Students will apply their knowledge of area and perimeter of a variety of shapes to determine area and perimeter of complex shapes and to solve real problems related to the Olympics.

Area and Perimeter
This activity helps students discover on their own the formula for learning the area and perimeter of a rectangle and a square.

Area & Perimeter using Geoboards
Students will apply the concepts of length, area, and perimeter to real world experiences.

Determining Area and Perimeter
Students will learn to calculate the area and perimeter of a given geometric shape and apply it to a real life situation.

Perimeter Lesson
Students will learn about perimeter and the units used to measure perimeter using a variety of materials including their hands, feet, rulers, and computer applets.

Learning About Length, Area, Perimeter, and Volume of Similar Figures Using Interactive Figures:
Using this interactive figure, students have an opportunity to experiment with rectangles of different shapes and scale factors to observe and interpret the changes in perimeter and area.

Understanding the Pythagorean Relationship Using Interactive Figures:
The interactive figure in this activity helps students understand the Pythagorean relationship and gives them experience with transformations that preserve area but not shape.

Building a Pyramid:
Students build a scale model and determine its volume.

Volume and Surface Area:
Two problem solving activities incorporating a study of perimeter and area.

Dominoes Activity:
Students investigate whether it is possible to cover a 6 x 5 grid with the number of dominoes provided.

Length, Perimeter, and Area:
This lesson is designed to examine the mathematical concepts of length, perimeter, and area.

Resources:

Measurement Resources:
A list of activities and lessons related to measurement.

Geometry Formulae:
A comprehensive listing of all the different formulas you need to know to find the area of polygons.

Connected Geometry:
A curriculum development project, funded by the National Science Foundation, designed to help teachers and students engage in meaningful mathematical activities.

Perimeter and Area:
A series of graphics that illustrate the relationship between area, volume, and perimeter of various geometric figures.
