Grade K, Math
Std 1:  Demonstrate concepts of number sense by using one-to-one correspondence, counting in sequence by ones from 1 to 20, counting backward from 10, recognizing numerals 0-9, and comparing sets of objects up to 10 by using vocabulary terms including more than, less than, most, or least.

     
Example:  one-to-one correspondence - objects paired with objects, objects  paired with numbers

Lesson Plans:

Numeral Recognition, Matching, and Writing
This lesson is designed to evaluate, reinforce and reteach numeral recognition, one-to-one matching and the writing of numerals from 1-20 using Anno's Counting book.

The Cheeto Walk
The students will learn number recognition by playing a game called The Cheeto Walk.

M & M Math
Students will use M&Ms to learn and sort basic colors and count numbers 1 - 10.

Counting Fun with Gummi Bears
The students will be able to identify the numbers one through ten, count the numbers one through ten out loud, and show the numbers one through ten using manipulatives.

Blueberries for Sal - Counting and Correspondence:
This lesson is designed to aid the teacher in teaching the math skills of one to one correspondence, number recognition, and matching numbers to sets.

More, Less, and Equal:
In this lesson, students will identify sets and numbers that are more, less, or equal to each other while participating in a variety of games and activities.

Counting Fun:
This lesson is a good whole group activity for beginning counting (forwards and backwards) and numeral recognition 1-10 to use early in the year.

Let's Count to 5: Unit Overview:
In this unit (7 lessons), students make groups of zero through five objects and connect number words and numerals to the groups. Kinesthetic activities are included.

Let's Count to 10: Unit Overview:
In this unit (8 lessons), students make groups of 0 to 10 objects, connect number names to groups, compose and decompose numbers, and use numerals to record the size of a group.

Let's Count to 20: Unit Overview:
In this unit (7 lessons), students make groups of 10 to 20 objects, connect number names to the groups, compose and decompose numbers, and use numerals to record the size of a group. Kinesthetic activities are included.

How Many Days Are Left?
This lesson is a fun lesson counting the days until Christmas. Students will use a calendar, a number line, and the Internet to count up by 20 and backward from 10.

String 'Em Up
Using beads to create a necklace, children
will reinforce the concept of even and odd numbers.
