Grade K, Math
Std 6:  Create combinations of rectangles, squares, circles, and triangles using shapes or drawings.

              Example:  

 

  • Describing relative location of objects using positional terms.

        Examples:  besides, inside, outside, above, below, between, on, over, under, near, far

Spatial Up!
Students will play a version of the game "Heads Up, Seven Up" to review spatial relationships.

Introduction to Geometry for Primary Students
Children will learn to recognize shapes, create patterns and explore spatial relations and symmetry.

Hurray for Shapes!!!
Students will create shapes using pipe cleaners and will be able to name the shape they create.

Ten Apples Up on Top
Students will listen to the book Ten Apples Up on Top by Theo Lesieg and then demonstrate an understanding of positional words.

Magazine Shape Search
Students will search for shapes in magazines, identify the shapes, cut out the shapes, and glue them to a chart.

Shapes Art:
In this lesson, students will recognize geometric figures, draw and describe geometric figures, and interpret positional words.

What Can You Build With Two Triangles?
In this lesson students complete a shapes activity and communicate what they have learned to a variety of audiences.

Positional Words - Inside, Outside, Upside Down
This lesson uses a cross-curricular approach to introduce students to the positional words: inside, outside, and upside down.  After listening to the book Inside, Outside, Upside Down by Stan and Jan Berenstain, students will act out the book.

Color Zoo Shape Art
Students will recognize and name the basic geometric shapes: circles, ovals, squares, rectangles, triangles, and diamonds while creating their own picture of an animal.

Students will play an interactive online game as they extend patterns and make flowers grow.

Math Glossary
An illustrated math dictionary.  Includes an audio player to read the word and definition aloud to the student.

Polygon Playground:
This interactive web-site allowas children to explore and create designs using multicolored triangles, squares, pentagons, hexagons, and octagons.

Patch Tool
This student interactive allows students to create patches like those used in quilting. Available shapes include triangles, squares, parallelograms, and more.
