Introduction to Measurement for Primary Students
These lessons are designed to engage young children in a series of activities where they measure and describe the attributes of integer bars.

Heigh Ho Measuring
After reviewing "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," students (in groups of seven) will line up from shortest to tallest or tallest to shortest.

Long and Short
Students use length to order objects through a PowerPoint presentation, and complete activities ordering objects from shortest to longest or choosing objects that are the same length.

Positional Words - Inside, Outside, Upside Down
This lesson uses a cross-curricular approach to introduce students to the positional words: inside, outside, and upside down.  After listening to the book Inside, Outside, Upside Down by Stan and Jan Berenstain, students will act out the book.

Rosie's Walk Around the Farm
Students will review positional words and demonstrate an understanding of those words by retelling the story of Rosie's Walk.

Going Places: Measuring and Mapping: Unit Overview:
This unit (7 lessons) engages students in activities that use measurement and geometry.

Magnificent Measurement: Unit Overview:
This Unit Plan (7 lessons) uses multiple materials to help students explore measurement.

How Big Is A Foot:
In this lesson, students participate in activities in which they focus on connections between measurement and children's literature.

Ladybug Adventures - Learning Geometry and Measurement Concepts: Unit Overview:
This four-part ladybug cluster presents planning and visualizing, estimating and measuring, and testing and revising.

Wonderful Whales
Students will gain knowledge of whales while identifying and comprehending the correct usage of the inch measurement.  Students will also identify and comprehend the concepts of small and large and make comparisons between the two.

How Many? A Dictionary of Units of Measurement:
This site offers an online dictionary and unit conversions.

Teaching Measures:
This site offers games, activities, and worksheets for teaching length, mass, and capacity.

Can You Fill It?
This interactive game from the PBS show Cyberchase has the player fill containers using the least number of pours from different size containers. This game would be good to use whole group with the teacher being the player.

Poddle Weigh-In:
Players must choose weights to place on a balance to get the weight of the Poddle. This is another interactive game from PBS's Cyberchase.
