Algebra 2 with Trigonometry
Std 9: Graph trigonometric functions of the form y=a sin(bx), y=a cos(bx), and y=a tan(bx).

Lesson Plans

Chicago Public Schools
This is a structured lesson plan on the graphs of trigonometric functions. It includes activities and assessments (Day 146).

Tweaking a Trigonometric Function -- An Exploratory Lesson
This lesson will demonstrate the various translations of y=AsinB(x+C)+D based upon changes in A, B, C, and D. The graphing calculator’s overlay graphs make it easy for students to detect, understand, and predict translations in periodic curves.

Stomach Turner Roller Coaster
This unit teaches students to recognize, graph, and write equations for sinusoidal curves with and without the use of technology.

Making Waves
This lesson models the average daily maximum temperature at different locations using trigonometric functions.  The models are impressively accurate.

Chicago Public Schools
Beginning at day 119, The next several lessons deal with the objectives from an introduction to real world examples.

Sine and Cosine Graphs
This is an online textbook written by an algebra 2 teacher that has lessons and mini-quizzes for everything.

Resources:

Wave Applet
Interactive java applet to let students see and hear the correlation between sound and trig waves

Draw Your Sound
Interactive java applet lets students draw a sine wave and the computer returns the sound of their wave.

Sine Wave Addition
This applet demonstrates harmony in sine waves.

Graph Recognition
Interactive applet that allows students to match graphs with equations.

SOS Math
This site is an online tutorial that explains many of the concepts in Algebra 2. It includes exercises.

Species Competition
This is a java applet that shows graphs of the population percentages as species compete for resources. Students can interpret the graph as they compete. In some instances, the graphs are trigonometric in nature.

Circular Function Graphs
This site is a collection of math applets that allows students to change the parameters of the trig functions and watch the graphs change. Included are interactive quizzes.

Periodic Functions
This site is has a good explanation with pictures describing the change in the parameters of trigonometric graphs.

Japanese Math Applets
Java applets demonstrating many concepts in Trigonometry.

Japanese Math Applets
This applet illustrates the effect of changing parameters in y=A sin B(X-C).

Weather Data
Good resource for examining the trigonometric nature of weather phenomena. Search average temperature and precipitation for any city in the US. You could import the data into a calculator or into Microsoft Excel to graph the data.
