7.2 Describe the Aquatic Biomes

Lesson Plans:

Aquatic Invaders
In this activity from the National Geographic Society, students explore the ways that native species interact in a healthy Chesapeake Bay. They then learn how exotic and invasive species can threaten the balance of the ecosystem.

Bottle Habitat

Students will construct an aquatic ecosystem in a two-liter pop bottle.

Biomes
Students will collect information about different biomes by watching videos and doing a Web activity.  They share their information in a carousel brainstorm activity and locate the biomes on a world map.

Aquatic Biomes
Students will explore Aquatic Biomes and make comparisons about plants and animals that live in the various biomes, then apply their knowledge to engage in activities such as Reader's Theater and writing activities.

Freshwater & Seawater
Students will conduct fieldwork to determine water quality of a freshwater habitat, observe an organism's behavior and adaptations, and answer questions about the differences between habitats with still and flowing water.

Decomposition in Freshwater
Hands-on activities to demonstrate the process of decomposition in a freshwater ecosystem. It also focuses on the importance of decomposition and its critical role in the food chain
