Aquatic Invaders
In this activity from the National Geographic Society, students
explore the ways that native species interact in a healthy Chesapeake
Bay. They then learn how exotic and invasive species can threaten the
balance of the ecosystem.
Bottle Habitat
Students will construct an aquatic ecosystem in a two-liter pop
bottle.
Biomes
Students will collect information about different biomes by watching
videos and doing a Web activity. They share their information in
a carousel brainstorm activity and locate the biomes on a world map.
Aquatic Biomes
Students will explore Aquatic Biomes and make comparisons about plants
and animals that live in the various biomes, then apply their
knowledge to engage in activities such as Reader's Theater
and writing activities.
Freshwater & Seawater
Students will conduct fieldwork to determine water quality of a
freshwater habitat, observe an organism's behavior and adaptations,
and answer questions about the differences between habitats with still
and flowing water.
Decomposition in
Freshwater
Hands-on
activities to demonstrate the process of decomposition in a
freshwater ecosystem. It also focuses on the importance of
decomposition and its critical role in the food chain
