Std 7: Identify geological features as mountains, valleys, plains, deserts, lakes, rivers, and oceans.

Lesson Plans:

Dirt is a 4 – Letter Word!
The Properties of Soil section will allow students to make observations of various soil types.

What is Soil Made Of? 
The students will observe soil samples with a magnifying glass.


Plant and Animal Habitats
Students will identify plants and animals which belong in specific habitats.  Kidspiration will be used to organize this project.

Wonderful Waves
This lesson will demonstrate that simple models can be used to represent real world objects that are not easily brought into a classroom.


Oceanography
Students identify different bodies of water.

Landforms
Students will create model landforms and practice geography skills using centers.

Shaving Cream Landforms
Students use shaving cream and Play-Doh to demonstrate their knowledge of landforms.

Landforms
This lesson plan from Loudon County Schools includes a vocabulary activity, an enrichment activity, and an empathy activity.

Prairies
This lesson plan uses the book Prairies to teach about landforms. Students will write a poem in their response journals, including three informational facts about prairies. Students will identify and color in the outlined areas of prairies on a map of the United States.

Suggestions for English Language Learners (ELLs):
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)

E/B: Students will make and label a volcano; D: ...and will give an oral explanation of volcanic activity; E: ...and will give both an oral and written report using reference texts and scientific vocabulary. 
E/B: Students will sculpt a clay model of the earth that shows each layer. After students sculpt the earth and its layers, they will label each layer; D: ...and will describe the composition of each layer; E: ...and will research how layers were formed, presenting the information in a written report.
