Std 16:
    Classify stars according to characteristics.

Lesson Plans:

Selling the Stars:
Students advertise stellar characteristics by creating travel brochures.

A Star is Born
Students form teams to investigate stars.

How Big Is That Star
Students will be able to explain the relationship between radius and mass among a list of stars.

Diameter of the Sun
A simple instrument can be constructed which will provide measurement data that permits a relatively accurate measurement of the sun's diameter.

Sunspot Races
After you've looked at your images, you should be able to predict when sunspot groups or active regions will disappear behind the Sun's limb and, perhaps, eventually reappear from around the back side of the Sun.

Identifying Lines in the Solar Spectrum
The student will identifies lines of the solar spectrum, using interpolation from "known" Fraunhofer lines.

Sun Activities

Timing an X-Ray Pulsar
Using XTE observations of the Crab Pulsar, the student will be able to:
Determine the period of the light intensity.
Interpret this period as the period of rotation of the object.
Identify this object as a neutron star.

How To View an Eclipse
Build a box that will allow your students to view the sun.

Resources:
