Quest for the American Dream in A Raisin in the Sun
The play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry is used as a
focal point for discussion of "The American Dream" as students explore
how the social, educational, economical and political climate of the
1950's affected African Americans' quest for "The American Dream."
Remember the Ladies: The First Ladies
Through the lessons in
this unit, you will explore with your students the ways in which First
Ladies were able to shape the world while dealing with the
expectations placed on them as women and as partners of powerful men.
(Lessons can modified for 7th grade)
Thomas Edison’s Inventions in the 1900s and Today: From
“New” to You!
After completing the lessons in this unit, students will be able to:
1) describe the lifestyles of both the rich and the poor in
1900s’; and 2) compare and contrast their own lifestyles with that of
Americans in the 1900s (Lesson can be modified for 7th grade.)
