Grade 7, Geography
Std 2.1:   Using field observations, maps, and other tools to identify and compare the physical characteristics of places.

Lesson Plans:

Landmarks of Civilization
Students will understand:
1. how and why people build structures; and
2. how structures can reflect a culture’s beliefs and values.

Perception of Place
This lesson asks students to consider the question of how and why people perceive places in different ways.

Site vs. Situation: Location! Location! Location!
This lesson illustrates why this is so.  An examination of places that have a similar latitude to Alabama will reveal the importance of a location’s site versus its situation.  Upon completion of the lesson, "Site vs. Situation:  Location!  Location!  Location!" students will understand the importance of taking into account the totality of a location’s geography should be clear. The Physical Characteristics of Places: The Fossil Record
This lesson asks students to consider how the movement of the Earth's tectonic plates alters the physical characteristics of places over geologic time. Students will investigate how climate has changed in specific world regions since the time of the dinosaurs and will write paragraphs explaining their findings.
