synthesize their knowledge by debating the current length of the
oil-drilling season.

Nuclear Fuel Centrifuges
In this lesson, students describe how inventions can influence
society, especially if misappropriated for unintended purposes. They
discover the principles underlying the centrifuge, the invention on
which nuclear energy relies.
Power House: Learning About Renewable Energy Sources
In this lesson, students consider how renewable energy sources could
offer viable alternatives to more hazardous and less plentiful
sources. Students design buildings as a case study in how renewable
energy might be used today.
The 1970s Oil Crisis
Using historical references, this lesson requires students to
describe the 1970’s oil crisis and the effects it had on the
transportation industries.

lives of people, considering such factors as class and gender.
