Why Do We Need the Government?
The intent of this activity is to introduce students to the meaning of the word "government."  Students will examine why society needs a government to exist.

The intent of this activity is to introduce students to the meaning of the word "government." The students will examine why society needs a government to exist.


Should the town of Twin Cheeks ban motorized rentals on Thome Lake?
Students will explore the political, personal, and economic issues involved in making this decision as they assume different roles in this simulation.


Unholy War.
Students review the principles of limited government and constitutionalism; understand that war historically strengthens government powers and curtails personal liberties; and research the unique role of the Court as the guardian of liberty.

Foundations of Government.
Students identify reasons why Americans need to have government and compare American government with other forms of government from history and current events.

Argument in an Athenian Jail: Socrates and the Law. 
This lesson focuses on the Crito, in which Socrates argues against the idea that he should escape the penalty of death imposed on him by Athens, laying the groundwork for future debates over the rights of the individual and the rule of law.
