Why Do We Need the Government?
The intent of this activity is to introduce students to the meaning of
the word "government." Students will examine why society needs a
government to exist.
Should the town of Twin Cheeks ban motorized rentals on Thome Lake?
Students will explore the political, personal, and economic issues
involved in making this decision as they assume different roles in this
simulation.
Political Ideologies
The
primary purpose of this activity is to introduce each student to a
framework of political and social values which may be used to evaluate
the validity of any public policy debate, bill, law, etc. A secondary
purpose of this activity is to socialize the learning process by
introducing cooperative learning in terms of the group investigation
model.
Critical Thinking Exercise.
This strategy is intended to help develop
and evaluate the critical thinking skills of comparing, contrasting, and
of analyzing similarities and differences. It is adaptable not only
across the curriculum but also at any age level. It can be used to
inspire small group work, writing assignments, inquiring lessons, and is
also an excellent evaluative tool.
