7.4: Explaining the effect of attack ads on voter selection of candidates

Lesson Plans:

Analyzing Political Ads
Students already familiar with the various propaganda techniques, analyze thirty-second political campaign/issue advocacy advertisements

Political Advertising:
Students will view current political ads and learn how they make use of various commercial ad appeals. Students will also develop familiarity with basic videography terms.

Leading or Misleading:
Students analyze commercials and look for logical fallacies. They then use a storyboard template to make their own commercial for a fictitious candidate, using the techniques and fallacies they've learned.

Public Opinion.
Student will identify the propaganda sources that can influence opinions and explain why a person can have information but not be a well-informed citizen.

Who Votes?
Students interpret graphs and analyze trends in voter participation. The data show students demographic factors that contribute to voter turnout.

Why Americans Don't Vote.
Using cost benefit analysis, students examine nonvoting in the United States.
