Lesson Plans:

Home-made Political Parties.
The purpose of this activity is to provide students with an understanding of the role of political parties in our democracy, by offering them an opportunity to participate in one of the primary activities of any party, writing a platform

Primaries and Political Parties:
Students will review the system of primaries and caucuses leading up to the nominating conventions and consider the benefits and drawbacks of the two-party system.

Presidential Nominating Process:
After completing this lesson, students will understand the process by which candidates for U.S. president are nominated by the Democratic and Republican parties. They will identify and understand differences between primaries and caucuses and key terms and issues related to the primary season.

 

 

Resources:

Worlds Smallest Political Quiz. A quick online quiz that allows students to clarify their place on the political spectrum. The scoring feature places the student on the spectrum and identifies well known political figures with similar scores.
