A Teaching with Historic Places plan. Students will investigate aspects of the westward expansion.


The Trail of Tears
This lesson uses online research to develop accounts of the removal of Native Americans. The students will also create a role-playing activity to demonstrate the Trail of Tears.

The Mexican War
This lesson provides students examine
the territorial status of Texas in 1830, 1840, and 1846, and compare the views of the conflict from both American and Mexican perspectives.

Opposition to the Mexican War

Students will utilize primary source documents to explore arguments surrounding Abraham Lincoln's opposition to the Mexican War.
