| Lesson Plans:
The
Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858
Students will examine the transcripts
of the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates and create a platform for each
candidate in the 1858 Senate race.
Lincoln Goes to War
This lesson plan explores the decision-making
process that precipitated the Civil War, focusing on deliberations
within the Lincoln administration that led to the Confederate attack
on Fort Sumter in April 1861.
Election of 1860
In this creative lesson plan, students use video technology to create
imaginary political commercials for the election of 1860. After
gaining necessary background information through videos, discussion
questions, and internet research, students design, script, and film
their own political commercial for the campaign of either Douglas or
Lincoln. Students work in teams, identify their target audience and
strategy, and use storyboard techniques to create effective political
advertising
