Grade 11, United States History from 1877 to the Present
Std 10:
Describe major foreign events and issues of the Kennedy Presidency, including the
               construction of the Berlin Wall, the Bay of Pigs invasion, and the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Lesson Plans:

A Look Back at the Bay of Pigs.
Describe the Bay of Pigs invasion of 1961 and the historical context in which it occurred; analyze why the invasion failed; evaluate present-day evaluations of the events from both an American and a Cuban perspective; appraise the 40-year U.S. embargo on Cuba and defend or oppose its continuance.

The Missile Crisis
Students will review facts about the Cold War, and research and write a news article about a Cold War event.

Students simulate an Ex-Comm (Executive Committee of the National Security Council) meeting to brief President Kennedy about the high-flying U-2 American reconnaissance plane's discovery of Soviet missile sites in Cuba on October 15, 1962.
