Explaining the Populist Movement as a forerunner of Progressivism

Lesson Plans:

African Americans and the Populists Movement
Students examine the role of African-American farmers in the populist movement

The Wizard of Oz
Students study the symbols in Baum's Wizard of Oz comparing them to historic figures and events in the American Populist movement

Progressivism
Module including links to lessons on urban political machines, the anti-trust movement and women's suffrage


Populists Advise Progressives
Students will devise an advisory speech to the newly founded Progressive Party.
As the speech is presented, the student will be in the persona of one of the Populist leaders and will be advising the Progressives on how to create needed changes in America.
