Students examine cartoons and photographs to understand the significance of the Berlin crisis in the beginning of the Cold War.


Berlin Airlift

The Role of NATO.
Students will understand the political atmosphere of post-World War II Europe and the U.S. foreign policy strategy of containment; research critical events that occurred prior to the formation of NATO, such as the Marshall Plan, the Truman Doctrine, the Berlin airlift, and Churchill’s coinage of the term iron curtain; and distinguish on a map the countries that formed the Warsaw Pact and the NATO alliance in 1955.
