Locating areas of conflict during the Cold War from 1945 to 1960

Lesson Plans:

The Role of NATO.
Students will understand the political atmosphere of post-World War II Europe and the U.S. foreign policy strategy of containment; research critical events that occurred prior to the formation of NATO, such as the Marshall Plan, the Truman Doctrine, the Berlin airlift, and Churchill’s coinage of the term iron curtain; and distinguish on a map the countries that formed the Warsaw Pact and the NATO alliance in 1955.

The Korean War
Extensive unit lesson on the Korean Conflict including map activities, and analysis of the political challenges associated with United Nations action.

The Forgotten War
Students conduct oral history research by interviewing veterans form the Korean War

Teaching With Documents Lesson Plan: The United States Enters the Korean Conflict

The Cold War.
Students will explain the concept of "cold war;" describe major Communist actions and the United States' reactions to them.
