Grade 11, United States History from 1877 to the Present
Std 9:
Describe major domestic events and issues of the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations.

Lesson Plans:

American Presidents. (PBS) Teacher's Guide to The Presidents' Web site offers a range of activities and resources to help teachers integrate core themes, events, and ideas from the American presidency into the classroom.

Views of JFK. Students analyze New Frontier programs and the lasting legacy Kennedy presidency.

LBJ: 36th President. Students examine the legacy of Johnson's Great Society programs

Voting Rights.
Students will use a map with population data to develop hypotheses concerning the distribution of political power in Alabama in 1962, 1964 and 1965. Define and discuss the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The 1960's.
Students will become familiar with the political/economic commentary of the 1960's by examining Internet resources of the era and presenting a PowerPoint presentation to the class

The Tumultuous Sixties.  Lesson module includes timelines and links to civil rights resources

Reliving History Through Writing.
Student will read a first hand account of John F. Kennedy's assassination. Students will then write an essay describing how a world or national event affected them. Finally, they will interview a person from their parents' or grandparents' generation about how their chosen world or national event affected the interviewee.
