My Holiday Portfolio
Students will put events in temporal order by using a calendar, placing days, weeks, and months in proper order and understand that history relates to events, people, and places of other times.

Mardi Gras
Students will learn about the history and practices of Mardi Gras as it pertains to French, German, and American culture.

More Mardi Gras  Why have carnivals and Mardi Gras become a famous celebration?  What are some traditions and customs related to Mardi Gras?

Civil Rights Heroes in Alabama  Students will learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks.

A Journey to the New World:  Christopher Columbus and the Pilgrims
Scroll down to History and Geography to find these lessons.  Students will be illustrating, dramatizing, and reciting their way to learning about early exploration and New World settlement.

Christopher Columbus:  The Man, the Myth, and the Legend
Scroll down to History and Geography.  This unit focuses on the voyage to the New World, Christopher Columbus, and location of the continents and oceans.  Includes cardinal directions, compass rose, differences between past and present.

Johnny Appleseed Day Research Activity  Students will learn about Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) and other people who do not have a day named after them, but should due to their contribution to society.

The Mayflower Passengers and Their First Year in America  Students will be able to understand the reasons why the Pilgrims and other passengers came to America, review the history of the Pilgrims' Thanksgiving with the Indians, and understand stories about the Pilgrims and the Thanksgiving of 1621.
