This unit focuses on the development of European civilization during
the Middle Ages in Europe. The social studies focus will include
geography, feudalism, chivalry, Norman Conquest, growth of towns,
England, and plagues from the time period of 400 A.D. to 1500 A.D.

You are about to travel back in time and across the continents to
examine two distinctively different cultures with a similar social
structure. This will not be an easy assignment, and at the end you
must judge which system had greater negative consequences upon the
people, culture, and future development of the region. So hop aboard,

The End of Europe's Middle Ages:
Fourteenth and Fifteenth Centuries. Produced at the University of
Calgary, The End of Europe's Middle Ages is designed to assist those
students engaged in Renaissance, Reformation and Early Modern studies
who lack a background in medieval European history. The tutorial is
presented in a series of chapters that summarize the economic,
political, religious and intellectual environment of the fourteenth
and fifteenth centuries.
The Gutenberg Bible at the Ranson Center
The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas
at Austin has created an engaging site about the Bible and the
printing process. OF special note is the "Anatomy of a Page" section
where varied pages in the Gutenberg Bible explored and explained.
Voices of the Powerless: The Peasant's Revolt
This audio-episode deals with the Peasants' Revolt that began in the
Essex village of Fobbing in May 1381. Supported by men from nearby
villages the rebellion had begun.
The
Monarchs of England
The site contains biographies and portraits of kings and queens who
have ruled England since 829. Links to other websites appear next to
the biographies.
